  • Biometric & Audio Data: Voice recordings from oral defense sessions and their corresponding transcripts.
  • Usage Data: Interaction logs, time spent on assessments, and browser metadata for security purposes.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the collected data for the following purposes:

  • To conduct AI-driven oral defense interviews and verify student understanding.
  • To generate transcripts, confidence scores, and feedback for educators.
  • To detect potential academic dishonesty or use of unauthorized AI tools.
  • To improve our AI models (using de-identified, anonymized data only).
  • To comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.

4. Data Sharing and Third Parties

We do not sell student data. We share data only as necessary to provide our service:

  • AI Providers: We utilize third-party LLMs (e.g., OpenAI, Google Gemini) to process text and audio. Data sent to these providers is for processing only and is not used to train their public models.
  • Educational Institutions: Instructors and administrators at your institution have access to your submissions, recordings, and reports.
  • Service Providers: Hosting, database, and email services (e.g., Supabase, AWS) that support our infrastructure.

5. Student Privacy (FERPA & COPPA)

FERPA: We act as a "School Official" with a legitimate educational interest. We protect student education records in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

Children's Privacy: Our service is intended for higher education and high school students. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.

6. Data Retention and Security

We implement industry-standard security measures (encryption in transit and at rest) to protect your data. We retain student data only for as long as requested by the educational institution or as required by law. Institutions may request deletion of student records at any time.
